Are you ready? Did you know?...
My opinion on why this may be is that city #dogs tend to be more sheltered and aren't allowed to roam freely unlike their country brothers. Dogs running free out in the country can get into trouble with snakes, or maybe eat things that are missed by #petparents. And, city ordinances on vaccines are more enforced on #pets living in the city, than those who live in the country.
- Gidget is the name of the famous Taco Bell #dog we all know and love!
The #dog I remember had a male voice, yet was named, Gidget? Hmmm...
3. #Greyhounds are the fastest #dogs on earth. They can reach a speed of running at 45 miles an hour!
Wow! That means they can keep up with my car while I'm cruising through most streets in my home town!
4. #Basset Hounds cannot swim. They are also the dog that originated the term "hush puppy".
If your outdoorsy like me, you want your dog to come along for hikes and swimming. But, it sounds like #Basset Hounds are much like #Chachi, my #LhasaApso. He turned out to #love the outdoors, yet, doesn't care for water.
5. George Lucas modeled the #Ewoks from #StarWars after his own family #dog.
I always thought my #Chachi looks just like an #Ewok! I'd #love to make him an Ewok costume for next Halloween!
6. Dogs have sweat glands in between the pads of their #paws. The sweat gives off an odor of corn chips. This is their natural body odor.
That explains why my baby gets what I call "Frito feet". I use that smell to gage when its time for his bath. But, I have learned that this smell is natural, so chill out on frequent bathing. I know he'll appreciate that.
7. #Dalmatian #puppies are born a solid white color. Their spots come in over time.
I once knew a woman who adopted what she thought was a white #Labrador, but later found out she had a #Dalmatian on her hands as the #puppy grew up.
8. When #dogs spin in circles just before they lay down, its a way of making themselves comfortable. This is a nesting trait handed down from their wilder ancestors.
Most of the #dogs I care for do this, too. #Chachi likes to do it even when he's getting comfy on me. He tramples all over my internal organs in his attempt to do so.
9. Dogs can not only see in black and white, but blue and yellow, as well.
The way I like to remember this as a rule of thumb for their eyesight is; #dogs cannot see Christmas colors, like red and green. I tend to buy #Chachi toys with blue and yellow so he can easily spot them.
*Another note on the color black. If your dog sees large amounts of this color and fear it, it's because to them it seems like an endless black hole. The interior of my car is solid black. When we bought it, I tried to load up #Chachi into the back seat to go for a ride. He was terrified! He wouldn't let me load him into the car. Poor thing! A blue bed sheet laid over the back seat remedied that problem. Or, use any lighter color to break up all that scary black hole appearance.
10. Dogs prefer to poop in alignment with the earth's magnetic field.
They prefer to position their bodies in the direction of the North-South axis of the Earth. Studies found that female #dogs also urinate in line with the axis, but male dogs seemed to have no preference. The same pattern was discovered in the direction that cattle and deer graze.
I hope you enjoyed reading about and learning these cool facts about our furry friends! I know I certainly did! Take care!
