Maggie ended up going to the #vet for something not serious but common among older #pets. She had trouble going potty. The reason being, is that her stool wasn't firm enough to pass clean out of her. Now, I'm not speaking of diarrhea, but rather a need for more fiber in her #diet.
The reason I decided to take her in and not just clean up her backside, is that this recently happened with another #client of mine. Except, his problem was indeed #diarrhea and his backside got very irritated. This made it uncomfortable to sit down and painful to go. So, in the interest of not having a repeat of that incident, I chose to take miss Maggie to her #vet right away to avoid further complications. The folks at #Springtownvethospital were very sweet and knew Maggie by name as soon as she came through the door!
The #vet would explain to me that adding more fiber, such as #Metemucil, would help her problem and firm up her stool. She did give us a meat flavored capsule, instead. The doctor said that some #dogs may not like the orange flavor of the #Metemucil. By the way, did you know that #dogs cannot taste sweet flavors?
In addition, they did a #lasertreatment on Maggie's back and legs. This was to treat the #arthritis in her lower back and legs. You see, the pain caused by the #arthritis was making it difficult for Maggie to hold her self up and push the stool out, poor thing! But when I got her home, she was a new #dog with pep in her step! She was able to get herself up the stairs around the house! It warmed my heart to see that! See, up 'til then, I was carrying her in and out of the house to go potty because of the she couldn't do stairs anymore. At one point she even went galloping through the living room! It was great!
So, Maggie wasn't ill, she just needed a minor adjustment in her #diet and some #arthritis pain relief. Her #petparents were glad to hear how well she was doing and gave me many thanks for acting quickly to help their Maggie. It was my pleasure. I have come to love Maggie and will do what is necessary to help her.
In the past, my #clients have apologized to me for having to take their #pets to the #vet. Although kind and considerate, their apology isn't necessary. It's my job, it's what I'm here for. Chachi and I are here cause we #care, period. I do the worrying so the #petparents don't have to.
The rest of our week was pleasant and Maggie played with Chachi in the backyard, when it wasn't raining. I think she appreciated my effort, as she came up to me and gave me a nudge with her nose to pet her. We're home now and miss her already. But, God keep her in #goodhealth and hopefully, we'll see Maggie again real soon!
