1. Keep your pet away from the front door. #Costumes and strangers may frighten them and make them feel the need to protect the home.
2. Don't take them in the car to go trick or treating.
#Scary creatures of all sizes can frighten #pets and make them aggressively protect themselves and the car.
3. Do not give your #pet #candy!
#Chocolate can be lethal to your #pet if ingested. Sticks from #candyapples can cause #pets to choke if they get hold of one. Packaging can cause choking or intestinal blockages. Foil wrappers can become as dangerous as razors when swallowed!
4. Keep your pets inside!
There are plenty of stories of vicious pranksters who have teased, injured, or stolen #pets left in their yards or allowed to roam outside on this night.
Chachi and I will be handing out #candy tonight for #Halloween! We have lots of kids come through our neighborhood and Chachi loves company! We usually hand out #candy, then I walk him around the neighborhood dressed in his #costume. This year, my baby is gonna be a lion!
A note about #petcostumes for #Halloween. Most #pets aren't accustomed to wearing clothes, much less #Halloween #costumes with ears, holes to stick their feet through, head pieces, etc. Be sure to get a feel for your #pet's comfort level before you commit to a #costume. Also, take the temperature outside and inside, as well as their coat into consideration before choosing the right fabric. If your #pet already has a thick coat and it's warm outside, dressing them in a #costume made of fleece or other fabrics meant for cooler temperatures can put them in dangerous distress! I have to be careful choosing a #costume for Chachi because we live in Texas and even in #October, it can be hot on #Halloween night.
Please be sure to go around your yard and the street to pick up left over #candy wrappers, #firework remnants, and other hazardous objects for your #petsafety the morning after! We hope you, your #pets, and family have a wonderfully safe, fun, and #spooky #Halloween night! And, don't forget to say, "Trick or Treat!"
